Banning desecration of Quran would not restrict freedom of expression: Danish premier

ANKARA, (Qnnflash) – Denmark’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, stated that banning the desecration of holy books like the Quran would not be a restriction on freedom of expression. She made these comments in response to a series of attacks on the Quran in her country. In recent months, there have been several incidents of Quran burnings, desecrations, or attempts to do so by Islamophobic individuals or groups, particularly in northern European and Nordic countries.

One such group, Danske Patrioter (Danish Patriots), has been involved in desecrating the Quran in front of various embassies, with police protection, while chanting anti-Islamic slogans and displaying offensive banners.

The Danish government has expressed condemnation of these Quran burnings and is considering the possibility of intervening in situations where other countries, cultures, and religions are demeaned to prevent negative consequences for the country’s security. Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen confirmed Denmark’s stance on the issue and its commitment to exploring measures to address these incidents within the framework of Danish freedom of expression.
