Fulham beat Tottenham on penalties in League Cup, Leeds knocked out

Fulham secured their spot in the third round of the League Cup by defeating Tottenham Hotspur 5-3 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage on Tuesday. Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez missed the target in the penalty shootout, and Fulham’s Joao Palhinha and Kenny Tete successfully converted their penalties, sealing the victory. Fulham took the lead in the London derby with an own goal from Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven in the 19th minute. Despite opportunities on both sides, the score remained level, leading to penalties.

Meanwhile, Salford City, a League Two team, eliminated Leeds United after a 1-1 draw, winning 9-8 in the penalty shootout. Plymouth Argyle initially took a 2-0 lead against Premier League side Crystal Palace, but Palace fought back to secure a 4-2 victory. Bournemouth also staged a comeback, overcoming a goal deficit to defeat second-tier Swansea City 3-2.

Wolverhampton Wanderers dominated with a 5-0 win against League One Blackpool. Luton Town, newly promoted to the Premier League, secured a 3-2 victory against League Two’s Gillingham.

Leicester City, leading the Championship, comfortably won 2-0 against League Two Tranmere Rovers, with Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy scoring in the second half.

The remaining second-round matches, including Chelsea’s encounter with League Two’s AFC Wimbledon, are scheduled for Wednesday.
