Historic Virginia hotel to reopen with new name

Virginia, (Qnnflash) – Hotel Heron, a captivating joint venture between Aparium Hotel Group, May Riegler Companies, and Potomac Investment Properties, is slated to open its doors in early 2024 in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The establishment will be an innovative conversion of the esteemed George Mason Hotel building, strategically positioned just minutes away from Washington D.C.

Originally constructed in 1926 and operating as the George Mason Hotel for nearly five decades, the building stands as an architectural exemplar of the Colonial Revival style. Collaborating firms Antonovich Associates, based in Washington, D.C., and design firm Streetsense, will harmoniously blend the historic structure with an adjoining new edifice.

Hotel Heron is poised to encompass 134 elegantly appointed guestrooms, a variety of dining and beverage choices, a cutting-edge fitness center, and versatile meeting spaces designed to accommodate various social events. Among the culinary offerings will be a restaurant celebrating the culinary heritage of the Chesapeake Bay region, as well as a bar area that will serve a delightful array of coffee, teas, and artisanal cocktails. Additional amenities will encompass a distinct lounge and bar area, as well as a seasonal rooftop cocktail bar.

Ideally located within Old Town, a nationally designated historic district, the hotel stands in close proximity to the charming King Street Mile, renowned for its array of shopping, dining, art galleries, and historic landmarks. The hotel’s advantageous location also ensures swift access to Washington, D.C., making it an ideal destination for both leisure and business travelers.

Michael Kitchen, a partner at Aparium Hotel Group, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We couldn’t be more excited to help breathe new life into this historic hotel. Hotel Heron will be a one-of-a-kind addition to Old Town Alexandria, and it will serve as a vibrant hub, connecting travelers to enriching experiences and the cultural essence of this world-class destination. We embrace the opportunity to restore this early 20th-century purpose-built hotel to its original glory, while infusing our Translocal Hospitality philosophy and injecting the energy and soul that defines Alexandria’s creative class.”
