Job Fair in West Baltimore Offers Hundreds of Maryland Jobs Across Various Agencies

The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is organizing a job fair this weekend with the aim of filling hundreds of positions across the state. The fair, held at Calvin Rodwell Elementary/Middle School on Liberty Heights Avenue in west Baltimore from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offers around 1,000 job openings within the agency. They are actively seeking candidates for roles such as correctional officers, medical and mental health professionals, clerks, dietitians, and more.

To attract applicants, the department is providing incentives for those interested in becoming a correctional officer in the Eastern Shore or Western Maryland. The bonus for signing on in these regions can go up to $7,500. In addition to the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, various other state agencies, including the Maryland State Police and the Maryland Department of the Environment, will be hiring at the event.

However, like many agencies nationwide, they have faced challenges in hiring due to the impact of COVID-19. Work-from-home jobs have become more attractive in other sectors, but public safety positions require in-person presence and active contributions on-site. The Secretary of the department, Carolyn Scruggs, encourages interested individuals to seize this opportunity and attend the job fair to explore the diverse range of openings available.

For those considering applying, it is essential to note that the minimum age requirement for most positions is 18 years old, while to become a correctional officer, applicants must be at least 21 years old. For further details and information, interested candidates can visit the department’s official website.
