T-Mobile will be eliminating 5,000 jobs.

(Qnnflash) – T-Mobile said on Thursday that it will lay off 5,000 workers, which is about 7% of its total workforce, over the next five weeks.

In a letter to workers on Thursday, CEO Mike Sievert said that the layoffs will mostly affect corporate and back-office jobs that are “primarily duplicative” to other roles and will cut the company’s middle management levels. He said that retail and “consumer care” workers who directly help customers will not be impacted.

“It’s a lot more expensive now than it was just a few quarters ago to get and keep customers,” Sievert said.

T-Mobile’s layoffs come after a number of other tech companies, like Microsoft and Meta, have announced large-scale layoffs in recent months. This is because companies are trying to deal with an unsure economy.
