The new electric Cadillac Escalade is equipped with 750 horsepower, a large trunk, and a hefty price tag.

Cadillac’s latest flagship SUV, the all-electric Escalade IQ, may be the most significant symbol of the company’s push into the electrified vehicle market to date, despite bearing little resemblance to the boxy gas-powered Escalade.

On Wednesday, GM revealed the all-electric version of their flagship luxury vehicle, the Cadillac CT6. Planned as part of General Motors’ commitment to selling only zero-emission passenger vehicles by 2035.

GM needs to discover strategies to appeal to customers for whom reducing emissions is not a top priority in order to achieve this aim. The new Escalade IQ sports dazzling LED displays and 750 horsepower worth of electric motors. That’s 10% greater than the most potent Escalade we can get in gasoline. GM claims that its large SUV can accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in less than five seconds.

Visual charm

Grilles aren’t necessary for electric vehicles because they demand less air for cooling and operation than gas-powered vehicles. Instead, the Escalade IQ sports a fancy light show at the front. The electric SUV is noticeably less bulky and more aerodynamic than the conventional Escalade. The roof can be painted a striking black as an option, and the hood is noticeably longer. It has three rows of seating for as many as seven persons, same as the gas-powered version.

The 2019 Cadillac Escalade IQ will be one of the brand’s most expensive vehicles. Prices will start about $130,000, but with options, it’s likely that they’ll sell for much more than that. The base price for a Cadillac Escalade with a gas engine is around $81,000, with the average unit selling for over $109,000 in 2016. Federal tax subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles will not apply to the Escalade IQ due to its high price.

Long distance

According to John Roth, GM’s vice president for Cadillac, both the Escalade IQ and the conventional gasoline-powered Escalade will be available to purchasers.

He argued that the company’s production adaptability gave customers a unique chance to steer future development.

GM predicts that the Escalade IQ, with its large 200 kilowatt-hour battery pack, will be able to go as far as 450 miles on a single charge. Range and battery size for the Escalade are comparable to those of the soon-to-be-released Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup from General Motors.

Similarly to the GMC Hummer EV, the Escalade may be driven in a diagonal pattern rather than straight ahead or backward at low speeds, and all four wheels can be steered in the same direction. It’s not obvious how practical that move will be, but it certainly grabs attention. When done in a Hummer EV, this maneuver is known as the “Crab Walk,” whereas in a Cadillac, it is referred to as “Arrival Mode.”

More practically, it has the ability to drive its front and rear wheels in different directions, lowering the turning radius of the large SUV by more than 6.5 feet, as claimed by the manufacturer.

While General Motors has not officially released the Escalade IQ’s weight, the Chevrolet Silverado EV’s comparable battery pack adds around 8,500 pounds to that vehicle’s curb weight. More than the supercharged Cadillac Escalade V, by almost a ton. Drivers will likely not feel the added weight when accelerating due to the great pulling force of electric motors.

However, if you overload your car, the occupants of other vehicles could be seriously injured in the event of a collision. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, in the event of a collision between two automobiles, occupants of the lighter vehicle are more likely to sustain serious injuries. When questioned about the potential dangers posed by exceptionally heavy vehicles like the Escalade IQ, GM has responded that these vehicles are equipped with safety features to mitigate collision damage. According to a GM representative, the Escalade IQ is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including an autonomous braking system that can identify pedestrians and bicycles and an automatic steering system that can keep the SUV from colliding with other cars on the highway.

Escalade IQ principal engineer Mandi Damman credited the SUV’s enormous battery pack located under the floor with the vehicle’s impressive ride and handling. As an added convenience, the designers were able to fit a storage bin for a purse or other bulky item under the center console thanks to the battery pack’s flat profile.

She affirmed that the venue allowed them to carry out all of their planned “traditional vehicle” activities.

The Escalade IQ, like many other GM vehicles, will provide the company’s hands-free Super Cruise technology, which can be used on thousands of kilometers of US interstates and several major secondary roads.

Interior area

The Escalade IQ’s screen, in keeping with the current trend for huge touch screens in premium automobiles, measures 55 inches across the diagonal. It completely obliterates the dashboard area below the windshield.

More space is available inside the SUV, including a wide area under the console, because the transmission is not located under the floor.

Under its broad hood, the Escalade IQ conceals a sizable frunk. There’s enough room for 12 cubic feet of stuff in there. The front “grille shield” rises up with the hood of the SUV, providing convenient access to the cargo space.

In roughly a year, production of the Escalade IQ will begin at GM’s Factory Zero, which is located on the border between Detroit and Hamtramck. Around the year 2021, the plant was updated so that it now produces only electric vehicles.
